Knowing Our Habib: Reality of the Heart

Truly in the heart there is a void that can not be removed except with the company of Allah. And in it there is a sadness that can not be removed except with the happiness of knowing Allah and being true to Him. And in it there is an emptiness that can not be filled except with love for Him and by turning to Him and always remembering Him. And if a person were given all of the world and what is in it, it would not fill this emptiness.”

– Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya
“Our hearts are in between the two fingers of Rahman, Allah SWT.” I still remember this statement quoted by my Qur’anic studies teacher back in school. I used to think it then , the very state of our hearts, the jolting emotions, with sadness at one moment and serenity at the other. With happiness at one day and gushing silence on another. I pondered it then and I pensively think it as well as the above quote by Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Rahimahullah ‘Alaih crossed my sight earlier today. Truly in our body there is a piece of which Prophet Muhammad PBUH has said if it is sound then whole body is sound….and know that it is the heart. It is one of my endearing hadith. We overlook what our hearts say, what it has to think, what it has to feel and most of all how in reality it should feel. We forget that the state of Iman, morals, etiquettes, adab, ‘aqaid and state of our emotions relate to this.
Our heart is created for Him. By Him.
Know that He is ilaah. Our Allah SWT.
He is the ultimate Habib.
Our heart is solely designed in a way that it feels peace when it is tied with the remembrance and dhikr of Allaah SWT. It qwivers and fears loving others in its essence. No other love of this world can equate the love He has for us. For every other love of this duniya is bound to break you. It will smash you and stab at your back and will forever paralyse you with the temporary fantasies and evils. The void that the heart feels when it does not remember the one and only one, the Wahid, that created it is tremendous. Not only does it make the sustenance difficult rather it lets the creation drown deep in sadness and depression. With His dhikr comes the sweetness of imaan, serenity of love and reality of heart and life. With His love our going in this sojourn life gets easy. We are able to give people back their dues, we are able to comprehend the essence of life as He describes it and we are able to understand the purpose of our creation in the first place. I am not saying that we have to put aside all other love but I am making it a point here that all other loves should be branched from the roots of His love. The stem should be His love. His Hubb. Love all for Him. Give everyone, your parents, spouse, children and relatives etcetera the portion of love because He has said so. You will see life will be much serene. You will experience that all your rights and responsibilities will be due inshaa Allah.
He Himself says in the Quraan,

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah . Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.” (Suratu Ra’ad:28)

Let’s make the Hubb of Him our true love, let’s make Him our true Habib.
